MKB-Netherlands recognizes is not in the positive image of the Dutch Association of Banks (NVB) outlined in lending to SMEs. Not only is it NVB research limited in nature, other research has shown that lending is indeed still a major problem. The latest Finance Monitor Economic Affairs shows that only 33 percent of companies find funding for the bank. The Taskforce lending, which EZ, Finance, SME Netherlands, VNO-NCW and the NVB participate, has asked the banks to investigate the lending to SMEs. This was necessary because the macroeconomic data from De Nederlandsche Bank, a slight growth, inconsistent with the perception of entrepreneurs and the figures from the finance monitors.
An examination of the banks that lending has grown. It is unclear however how this growth was achieved. The number of new loans to SMEs over the last two years which is decreased by 35 percent, according to the same bank research. The apparent growth in lending can therefore only be explained by the celebration of existing loans. The task force has been sent with the available source material as complete a picture as possible of finance to SMEs it. The internal investigation with banks is just one part of it.
MKB-Netherlands regrets that the NVB now one-sided story comes out just before the task force completes its work later this month. Given the contradiction is a key recommendation of the Task Force to submit periodically a thorough and independent investigation to carry out lending to SMEs.
